About Our Members Founded in 1929, the Junior League of Tucson is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. We're a group of women, 21 and older, interested in making Tucson a better place to live and learning to be effective community leaders. JLT is one of 292 Leagues across the country and around the world. We have high-powered professionals and stay-at-home moms...women just out of college and women with kids in college. We come from a variety of social and economic backgrounds and we have a wide range of personal values and political opinions. One thing we all share is a common commitment to community and a desire to make our mark on Tucson by being effective leaders and volunteers.
Benefits of Membership You will have a chance to get involved with our membership and the Tucson community. If you're an active member you can expect to get some real experience and skills, such as: - an awareness of local and national social issues;
- skills that will prepare your for lifelong community work;
- knowledge about community programs, nonprofit boards, fundraising efforts and interpersonal communication;
- the chance to work as part of a team to accomplish a goal.
There are intangible rewards, too. Our members almost unanimously think that their JLT experiences have helped them: - build confidence and self-esteem;
- make strong, enduring friendships;
- deal with people from all walks of life.
