IMPACT

The Junior League of Tucson, Inc. is committed to be recognized in our community for implementing projects and partnerships that impact the well-being of Tucson's Independent Elderly and to creating an environment that fosters voluntarism, leadership and friendship.

On February 25, OASIS moved in and started classes at the JLT headquarters.  OASIS is a national education organization dedicated to creating opportunities for adults over 50 to continue their personal growth and provide meaningful service to the community.  After learning that OASIS would lose its current space (view article), the Junior League of Tucson stepped up and offered them both office and classroom space.  For a list of classes, view the OASIS website.

EMBRACE

We invite you to participate in social and educational events hosted by the Junior League of Tucson which support important community programming such as...

Habitat for Humanity.  The JLT membership voted at the April 2008 General Meeting to grant $10,000 to Habitat's Women Build for the 2nd year in a row.

The new 2008-09 Senior Education project will provide educational and social programming to seniors on topics focused on improving overall well-being. Potential subject matter includes education about living wills, identify theft and fraud; caregiver respite; and support for grandparents raising grandchildren.

Beginning in the fall of 2008, JLT Cares will partner with Pima Council on Aging and the Neighbors Care Alliance to provide volunteer caregiver support to independent seniors in Tucson who could use a helping hand. Activities will include friendly visits, assistance with errands, telephone reassurance, help with house or yard work, and meal delivery. The JLT will also assist Neighbors Care with organizational capacity development as they build neighbor-to-neighbor outreach groups throughout Tucson.

Character Counts is our character-building mentoring program at Van Buskirk Elementary. We are currently seeking active seniors interested in serving as mentors to 5th graders to help them learn about critical character traits over a seven-week period in spring 2009. To get more information or sign up, click here

Tucson's Largest Rummage Sale is scheduled for Friday, April 24th and Saturday, April 25th, 2009 at Hi Corbett Field.  For  50  years, the Junior League of Tucson's annual Rummage Sale has offered our community the opportunity to buy quality new and used merchandise. This is the Junior League of Tucson's largest fundraising event.  Proceeds support our community service programs and leadership training.  Each year, this sale raises over $60,000 thanks to the support of our gernerous sponsors, our rummage donors, and of course our loyal patrons.

This program focuses on childhood obesity and is provided in conjunction with the Association of Junior Leagues International. The 2008 program was conducted by our 07-08 New Member classon April 18th at Prince Elementary School.
